Nebraska’s attorneys are uniquely situated to make a difference in the lives of our fellow Nebraskans. Nebraska’s Department of Justice and the Nebraska State Bar Association Young Lawyers Section are teaming up again this year to fight hunger with the Fifth Annual “Quashing Hunger Food Drive.” This year’s food drive competition will be held August 12th – August 30th.
There are families right here in Nebraska who are hungry and struggle every day to put food on the table. With more than 244,000 Nebraskans considered food insecure (more than 97,000 are children under the age of 18), Nebraska food banks distributed more than 15 million meals last year. The picture of hunger in Nebraska may be a young child, a parent, a grandmother, a neighbor or a friend.
The Quashing Hunger Food Drive is a competition between law firms in the six regions of the Nebraska Food Bank Network. There are three categories of participants: Large law firms with 21+ employees; medium law firms with 11-20 employees; and small law firms with 1-10 employees. The law firm that raises the most amount of food in each category will win the “YLS Barristers’ Bowl.” In addition, the winning large law firm will receive 10 NCLE coupons, the winning mid-sized law firm will receive 5 NCLE coupons, and the solo practitioner or small law firm with 2 to 9 lawyers will receive 2 NCLE coupons for one hour of NCLE programming.
